With the present global economy, the increasing rate of unemployment and underemployment is almost everywhere. People tend to lie just to gain employment as a means of survival. Some people tend to lie or create a picture of something which they are not, just to gain fame and fortune. Let’s face it, looks can be deceiving, and so the words. It is so easy to write something in a piece of paper and convince everyone that you are telling the truth. If there is a background check, you will have the capacity to know which things are real, and which are not. For some, knowing that they will undergo a background check, they can easily correct their intentions and accept the consequences no matter what.
For people, risk associated with intentional violation of both internal and external policies by current or past employees. In some specific cases, the risk extends to people who are being considered for employment.
In a private firm, operational risk is also a major target. There may be losses in areas that have been incurred due to deficiency in existing procedures or the absence of procedures. Losses in this category can result from human error or failure to follow an existing procedure because of failure in identifying certain background information of each employee experience which may make them unsuitable for the job. Systems breakdown may bring a threat to a company resulting from inadequate or failed processes in getting the right person for the right job. Identified risk may occur on income/profit of the company.
Lack or improper screening may result in negligent hiring practices in the medical sector and this harms not only an organization, but every patient as well and sometimes even co-workers. It is proven that poor hiring can be cited as a contributing factor in the rise of lawsuits, medical malpractice claims and increase of mortality rate.
Same thing with our private life, we need to be cautious. Inadequate screening in every transaction that we do or with every people that we meet, may result to lost of our savings and sometimes put ourselves and our family in danger.
Just as in life outside of work, where people need to be cautious, inadequate screening can result in failure to notice things which are vital to the success of the company. Every company should practice background check in order to place the right employee with the right position and eliminate hiring of unqualified employee.
